Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Additional Sessions Court Judge S A Sinha sentenced a man to life imprisonment for brutally murdering his wife on suspicion of her character. Subhash Lahanu Tupe, deceased Maya's father lodged a complaint with the police after the incident.

As per the complaint, Maya was married to the accused Lahu Bhagaji Salve (27, Satala, Phulambri). Lahu is originally from Satala, but he was living with his father in Nashik due to work. Maya was living with her mother and two children. Lahu had also come to live at his in-law's house four months before the incident.

He was suspicious of Maya's character and used to beat her up. The complainant and his wife tried to resolve the dispute by explaining this to Lahu.

The complainant's wife had jaundice. So, the complainant had gone to Lamangaon (Khuldabad tehsil) with his grandson on a two-wheeler to get medicine for jaundice at around 7.30 am, on June 2, 2020.

The complainant returned with the medicine at around 8 pm. His two grandsons said that their uncle had beaten their aunt with an axe and a knife and then left the house.

When the complainant went inside the house, he found Maya lying in a pool of blood. A blood-stained knife was found lying near the sofa. The woman was taken to the Government Hospital in Khuldabad in a seriously injured condition, where the doctors declared her dead. A case was registered in this regard at Khuldabad police station.

During the hearing of the case, Assistant Public Prosecutor Arvind Bagul recorded the statements of 12 witnesses. Among them, the testimonies of the deceased and the accused's son and brother-in-law’s son were important.

After the hearing, the court convicted the accused Lahu Salve and sentenced him to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and 2 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5,000 under Section 498 (A).

As per the court directives, a fine of Rs 15,000 should be given to both the children of the deceased as compensation. The order also states that the Legal Services Authority should provide appropriate compensation in the future.
