A massive fire reduced five to six warehouses and scrap godowns to ashes in Daulatnagar, Naregaon. The fire broke out around 1.30 am on Tuesday and was brought under control after nearly six hours.

Naregaon and nearby areas have numerous legal and illegal scrap godowns and cooler manufacturing units. However, authorities have turned a blind eye to these establishments. The fire started suddenly at a scrap godown located opposite an old garbage depot in Daulatnagar. Locals immediately alerted the fire department. Officers Krishna Holambe, Ramesh Sonawane and others rushed to the scene. They relentlessly sprayed water and foam for nearly six hours to control the fire. Several garages, wooden warehouses, and cooler manufacturing godowns were completely destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, confirmed officer Holambe.

Firefighting efforts continued until 4.30 am. The operation involved eight fire engines, each with a capacity of 5,000 litres, and six private tankers carrying 10,000 litres each. JCB machines were used continuously to clear debris. Thick smoke covered the sky until early morning. The cause of the fire remains unknown, according to fire officials.
