Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

After assuming office, the newly elected Mayor Sameer Rajurkar outlined a four-point action programme, asserting a policy of zero tolerance towards any obstruction to the welfare of the historic city and its citizens.

Rajurkar said he would make all efforts to introduce reforms in the functioning of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) through regular meetings with senior officials and heads of various departments. Speaking to the media persons, he detailed his four key priorities.

His first priority, he said, would be to reduce the existing gap in water supply by a few days and strengthen revenue collection to ensure the smooth functioning of the civic body. Corporators would be encouraged to assist the CSMC in improving the collection of various taxes, including property tax.

The second priority would be to make the city clean and well-maintained, on the lines of Indore and Ahmedabad, and to place it among the top 10 cities in the country. To achieve this, awareness programmes would be launched to encourage public participation, with a focus on making the city garbage-free and instilling discipline among elected corporators, officials and citizens alike.

His third priority would be to make the city free of illegal hoardings. In line with High Court directives, civic officials would be instructed to remove hoardings that cause traffic congestion or mar the city’s aesthetic appeal. He added that even hoardings displaying his own photograph would be removed without exception.

The fourth and most important priority, Rajurkar said, would be to make the CSMC corruption-free. As part of the reform process, an online system would be developed to ensure transparency and to hold officials accountable for delivering results within stipulated timeframes.
