Men are apathetic about the vasectomy surgeries due to several prejudices prevalent in the society. In the past nine months, 2034 female sterilization surgeries were conducted while the male vasectomy were reported only four. The male vasectomy is easier than the female sterilization but still the number of vasectomy surgeries is very less.

The response for the family planning programme is very less. Out of the total target only 11 percent target of sterilization was achieved in the past nine months. Only three male vasectomy were conducted in the district through the district health officer in the rural health centres while only in the district civil surgeon through the rural hospital in the district. Moreover, not a single surgery was conducted in the municipal corporation jurisdiction. However, the female sterilization surgeries are more in the urban areas. The experts have opined that men should take initiative for the vasectomy as it is more safe, they mentioned.
