Additional collector Anjali Dhanorkar on Sunday stressed the need for healthcare professionals to remain compassionate and sensitive towards patients while delivering medical services. She said that understanding a patient’s mental state, building trust and boosting morale are as important as providing treatment, as doctors often play the role of counsellors as well.

She was speaking at the fifth graduation ceremony of the MGM Institute of Physiotherapy held at the university’s Rukmini Hall. The event was attended by secretary of Mahatma Gandhi Mission, Ankushrao Kadam; deputy dean of MGM Medical Hospital and College,Dr Pravin Suryavanshi; Dr Aparna Kakkad; Dr H.R. Raghavan; project director Dr Prerna Dalvi; chief finance officer Bharat Pentawar; principal Dr Sarath Babu and head of the examination department Dr Vaibhav Kapare, among others.

Dhanorkar said that the degrees awarded to students were not only a personal achievement but also a responsibility towards society. Dr Pravin Suryavanshi noted that physiotherapy plays a crucial role in patient rehabilitation and urged graduates to continue learning and upgrading their skills.

A total of 66 students, including 18 Master of Physiotherapy and 48 Bachelor of Physiotherapy graduates, were awarded degrees at the ceremony. Students with outstanding academic performance were also honoured with gold medals and certificates. All students were administered the ‘Oath of a Physical Therapist’ on the occasion. The introductory address was delivered by Dr Vaibhav Kapare, while the programme was compered by Dr Sanket Mungikar and Dr Payal Dhavale.
