On Tuesday morning, the municipal corporation took action against vendors selling fruits, tea, and snacks on handcarts in front of Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) or Ghati Hospital. Five handcarts and four tables were seized. While the operation was underway, MIM party leaders arrived at the scene. They lay down in front of the municipal corporation vehicles and started shouting slogans. The encroaching citizens took their belongings from the municipal vehicles. Hence the anti-encroachment squad of the municipal corporation was forced to return empty-handed without action.
The squad arrived at Ghati Road today at 11.30 am. As soon as the team arrived, the vendors who had encroached upon the road moved their handcarts and tables into the nearby Zilla Parishad premises. However, the civic squad entered the ZP premises and, with the help of a JCB, began removing the temporary stalls and handcarts. A large amount of goods were seized.
At this moment, MIM leaders Naser Siddiqui and former corporator Vikas Yedke, along with their supporters, arrived at the scene. They confronted the officials of the Nagari Mitra Pathak and the building inspector, Desai. They took them to task. Later on, they lay down in front of the municipal corporation vehicles and started shouting slogans. Meanwhile, the vendors managed to reclaim the goods that had been seized by the squad.
MIM faces charges, yet...
On February 10, the MIM party caused a ruckus in Mukundwadi, opposing the anti-encroachment drive. After this incident, the municipal corporation filed a case against the MIM leaders. However, despite the chaos that occurred on Tuesday, no legal action had been taken by the civic administration until late at night.
Ex-servicemen became traffic police
Former MIM group leader in CSMC, Naser Siddiqui said,” The apex body of the municipal corporation passed a resolution to recruit ex-servicemen. These personnel have been appointed to take punitive actions against citizens who litter in open spaces, spit in public areas, etc. Currently, these ex-servicemen are performing duties similar to that of traffic police. We are opposed to this. A memorandum will be submitted to the administrator in this regard on February 21.”
