The administration of the Zilla Parishad (ZP), often referred to as a mini secretariat, is still being run from the old building. Although new office-bearers have taken charge, their aspiration to operate from the new building has yet to be realised.
When contacted by the scribe, ZP President Avinash Galande said that the construction of the new building has been completed. However, a proposal worth Rs 10.35 crore for furniture is still pending with the government. “We are following up on it. We are confident that by Marathwada Muktisangram Din, we will begin operations from the new building. Our term as newly elected office-bearers is two and a half years, but even if we get to work there for two years, it will be worthwhile,” he said.
He further mentioned that detailed discussions have been held with the State’s Rural Development Minister, Jaykumar Gore. The minister has responded positively regarding the release of funds, and the proposal is expected to be approved soon, after which the furnishing work will commence.
The newspaper had previously published detailed reports, including plans of the new building, highlighting the issue. Despite elections being held and new office-bearers taking charge, the fully equipped building has still not been put to use. The wait for its operationalisation continues. Several proposed inauguration dates have already passed. Last year, September 17 was considered, but the plan did not materialise. Now, the same date this year has been set as the target. The new office-bearers will need to consistently pursue the matter to ensure the project is finally completed.
