Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds on Wednesday evening wreaked havoc on the electricity network, leaving the city in darkness. In several areas, tree branches fell on power lines, causing faults in multiple feeders. While electricity supply was restored within an hour in some areas, other parts remained without power for a longer duration.
The rain and gusty winds disrupted electricity supply across the city. A tree fell on wires behind the overhead water tank in Pundaliknagar, tripping the feeder and producing loud noise at the DP in Hanuman Chowk. Power supply from Harsul, Satara, and Chikalthana 132 kV substations to the 33 kV Power House, Satara, Walmi, Shivajinagar, and Mhada substations was temporarily disrupted.
Similarly, feeders supplying 11 kV electricity to areas including Jaybhavaninagar, Rajnagar, Nakshatrawadi, Sudhakarnagar, Golwadi, Railway Station Road, Rahulnagar, MIT, New Krantinagar, Roza Baugh, Kausar Park, Devnagari, Chetananagar, Chanakypuri, Gajanan Mandir, Aurangpura, Ganesh Colony, Bus Stand, Naregaon, Padegaon, Priya Colony, Mondha, Uttarnagari, Azad Chowk, Jaswantpura, Bafna Jewellers, and Deolai Chowk also experienced faults. In some areas, tree branches fell on electric wires.
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) staff promptly carried out repairs, restoring power supply across all affected lines.
Claim of uninterrupted power proves false
MSEDCL had upgraded the capacity of the 33 kV substation transformer to provide uninterrupted, quality electricity to consumers in the Cidco N-4 area. A 10 MVA transformer at the substation was commissioned on March 29, with the assurance that residents would receive reliable power.
However, after rainfall began on Wednesday night, electricity supply in N-2, N-3, and N-4 was disrupted, prompting citizens to express dissatisfaction with MSEDCL’s services. Many parts of the old city also plunged into darkness due to sudden rainfall.
