Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
The way has been cleared to upgrade Mukundwadi railway station to a ‘crossing station’. With the proposed works under the doubling of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Parbhani route, the station is set to gain importance and may eventually develop into the city’s second terminal.
In the first phase of doubling, covering about 38 km between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Gevrai, Mukundwadi station will undergo extensive development. This project will directly impact train schedules by reducing crossing time and improving punctuality. It will also increase capacity to run more trains, offering passengers greater options. The improvements will provide major relief for growing freight traffic driven by industrial investment. This transition marks a significant milestone in the region’s railway development.
What developments are planned at Mukundwadi station?
Three high-level platforms of around 650 metres each will be constructed, including the existing platform number one. This will allow halts for long-distance trains. In addition to the up and down main lines, three new loop lines will be laid, and the current main line will be converted into a loop line, enabling multiple train crossings and halts simultaneously.
A foot overbridge will be built for passenger convenience, along with a new station building equipped with modern facilities. These upgrades will help the station attain the status of a ‘major crossing station’.
Boost to infrastructure
During the doubling work, major modernisation of railway infrastructure will be undertaken. This will enhance passenger services and facilitate freight movement for upcoming industrial units, said railway expert Swanand Solanke.
