A 31-year-old man from Sai Nagar in N-6, who had allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head on Saturday, succumbed to his injuries after nearly 30 hours of treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

The deceased has been identified as Sameer Naik, who was engaged in selling bangles and performing priestly duties. On Saturday evening, he allegedly shot himself in the head with a country-made pistol inside his residence.

During a search of his house, police reportedly found 330 cannabis-like tablets and around 150 to 200 empty liquor bottles stored in his room. An airgun was also recovered from the premises. A case had been registered against him for illegal possession of a firearm. Following the incident, Sameer was initially admitted to GMCH and later shifted to a private hospital. On Sunday evening, he was brought back to GMCH Hospital, where he died around midnight while undergoing treatment.

Police have seized his mobile phone and are investigating to trace the source of the weapon and ammunition, police inspector Atul Yerme said.
