Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Nafisa Begum Abdul Sattar (60), former president of the Sillod Municipal Council (SMC) and wife of former Maharashtra minister and MLA Abdul Sattar, passed away at 2 am on Monday after a prolonged illness. She was laid to rest at the Sillod graveyard at 10 am on Tuesday.

Nafisa Begum served as the president of the SMC for 16 consecutive years from 2001 to 2016, making significant contributions to the Sillod city’s development. News of her demise cast a pall of gloom over the tehsil.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Rajasthan’s Governor Haribhau Bagade conveyed their condolences to MLA Abdul Sattar over the phone.

Several prominent leaders attended the last rites, including MP Kalyanrao Kale, MLA Arjunrao Khotkar, former MLC Ambadas Danve, former MLA Chandrakant Danve, former MLA Nitin Patil, Vaijapur Municipal Council president Dinesh Pardeshi, Balasaheb Sancheti, and many others.

She is survived by her husband Abdul Sattar, two sons — SMC president Abdul Sameer and Zilla Parishad member Abdul Aamer — five daughters and an extended family.
