Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

“News diagnostics and detection designs are being developed through novel nano materials for protection against X-ray and Gamma rays, which are used for radio therapy,” Dr Mohamed Salem Badawi, director of Academic Scientific Programme and professor of Radiation Physics, Alamein International University, Egypt.

Dr Mohamed Salem Badawi is in the city to attend the two-day international workshop being hosted, ‘Advanced Materials: Bridging Research and Industries' at the Electronics Department of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on Sunday.

He was speaking to this newspaper on the sidelines of the workshop. Dr Mohamed Salem said that the machines would be covered by a new nanomaterial as a protective covering shield with different polymers providing more cheers and more flexibility for patients.

“Those X-ray machines which have good calibration are less harmful for the patients. Efforts are underway to develop a machine with high calibration to diagnose complex cases of diseases using gamma rays in nuclear facilities. The development will help avoid unwanted exposure to radiation for patients and technicians.
