Aurangabad, May 27:

The civil surgeon Dr. S V Kulkarni has informed that the strength of active patients undergoing the treatment of Mucormycosis (fungal infection) is 399 in the district. Coincidentally, not a single patient, from the age group of one year to 18 years is detected with this type of infection.

Earlier, it was told that the Mucormycosis is detected in patients who had returned home after recovering from Covid-19, but now it has been surfaced the fungal infection is detected amongst the Coronavirus patients, who are undergoing the treatment.

Experts claim that the usage of steroids, ventilators, and plain water instead of distilled water in oxygen cylinders during the treatment of Covid-19 treatment leads to fungal infection. The other reasons also include fluctuation of sugar levels. Hence the possibility of fungal infection is more amongst patients, who were serious due to Covid-19, and were given oxygen and steroids, and had returned home after recovering from it.

The ratio of kids becoming serious due to Coronavirus infection was negligible. Hence no question of giving steroids to them has emerged. Accordingly, not a single child has been detected of Mucormycosis. The disease is serious, but the patient could recover from it through proper treatment. It is a great relief that at least the medicines are available, said the experts.
