Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The municipal corporation has set a target of collecting at least ₹700 crore in the 2025-26 fiscal year through property tax and water tax. However, by the end of January, only ₹200 crore had been collected. On Monday, the civic administration has now directed officials that an additional ₹200 crore must be collected over the next two months. Areas with less than 50 per cent tax collection will see a halt in road and drainage works.

Municipal commissioner G Sreekanth held a meeting with department heads on Monday and set a target of ₹200 crore in tax collection for the next two months. The total target for the current financial year is ₹700 crore, which includes both current and arrears property tax. Of this, only ₹200 crore has been collected so far. To boost collections, the civic administration implemented the amnesty scheme, offering property tax concessions of 95 pc under the first phase and 75 pc under the second phase. As a result, collections in January alone exceeded ₹200 crore. With two months remaining until March 31, the civic chief instructed officials to focus solely on tax collection during this period.

He also directed that in areas or colonies where tax collection is below 50 pc, no road or drainage works should be carried out.
