A notorious criminal with more than 25 criminal cases against him has been detained under the MPDA Act and sent directly to Chandrapur Jail for the fourth time.

The accused, Akshay alias Bhaiyya Ramesh Vahul (26), a resident of Ekta Colony in the Satara area, was detained following orders issued by police commissioner Pravin Pawar. Active in crime since his juvenile years, Akshay has been involved in robbery, theft, attempted murder, assault, and intimidation cases. He has also been externed several times. From 2023 to 2025, he was detained in Harsul Jail for three consecutive years, but after being released on bail, he allegedly resumed criminal activities from December. Based on a proposal submitted by Crime Branch inspector Gajanan Kalyankar and Satara police officer Krishna Shinde, the commissioner approved his detention. On Saturday, PSI Nandkumar Bhandare executed the order and shifted him to Chandrapur Jail with assistance from police personnel including Deepali Sonawane, Sunil Belkar, Mahadev Dane, Kalyan Nikam, Subhash Pache, and Suresh Kale.
