Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Now, those youths who have completed Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS), Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) and other courses will be eligible for the post of Food Safety Officer (FSO).

Earlier, candidates with health sciences degrees were not allowed to apply for the post of FSO as per the notification issued in 2023. Following demands from different doctors unions, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) amended the eligibility criteria recently for the post of FSO with the Central Government’s approval.

The FSSAI issued a notification on March 28, 2025, and expanded the list of recognised qualifications. Besides earlier courses, the candidates with MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS, BSRMS and other courses are now eligible to apply for the post.

Dr Narendra Kale, the State unit president of the Doctors Cell of NCP who also submitted a memorandum demanding the inclusion of the courses in the eligibility criteria of FSO, welcomed the decision.
