Aurangabad, June 30:

An National Security Gurard commando beat an Assistant Inspector of Police (API) for stopping a Jeep and questioning about the mask at Nagar Naka on Wednesday evening. The commando also torn the cloths of a policeman. The police later arrested him and the procedure to register case against him was going on till late.

The commando has been identified as Ganesh Gopinath Bhume (34, Phulambri) and presently posted in the VIP Security department at Assam.

In the backdrop of the measures being taken for the restriction of the spread of Covid-19, the API of the Cantonment police station Pandurang Bhagile and other employees imposed Nakabandi at Nagar Naka from 4 pm. At around 6 pm, a Jeep came there and there and two persons in the jeep were not wearing masks. Constable Ghodele stopped the jeep and imposed fine to Bhume. He started arguing with the police. Meanwhile, API Bhagile intervened but Bhume hit three blows on Bhagile’s face due to which he was severely injured. He also torn the pant of one of the constable. On receiving the information of the incident, DCP Nikesh Khatmode Patil, ACP Vivek Saraf went to the Cantonment police station and directed to lodge a complaint and arrest Bhume.

Meanwhile, Khatmode contacted M Mahendra, the superintendent the accused’s unit and informed him about the incident.
