Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

A man allegedly touched a 25-year-old student inappropriately near the Police Commissionerate on March 4 around 6 pm. When she freed herself, the accused abused her and threatened assault. He also attempted to attack a young man who rushed to help her. The Damini squad quickly reached the spot, detained the accused and handed him over to City Chowk police.

The woman, who had moved to the city from her village for education and stays in a government hostel, had gone to the Milk Corner area for tea around 5.30 pm. While returning to the hostel, the accused followed her and suddenly touched her inappropriately from behind. Shocked, she pushed him away and questioned him, after which he started abusing her. When a youth known to her intervened, the accused also threatened him. During questioning at City Chowk police station, the accused was identified as Sunil Misal (23), a resident of Chhavani. Police said he sometimes stays in Ahilyanagar and at other times in Chhavani and was often seen begging in the area. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case of outraging modesty has been registered. Police sub-inspector Santosh Kharat is investigating the case. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over drug addicts, beggars and miscreants roaming freely in the city.
