Traffic in the famous Ajanta Ghat came to a standstill for nearly nine hours on Friday after an oil tanker broke down in the middle of the road at around 11 am due to an engine failure.

Initially, traffic was moving slowly on one side, but by around 5 pm, increased vehicular flow led to a complete halt. This resulted in long queues of vehicles stretching up to 7 km. According to information, the oil tanker (RJ-GE-4798) travelling from Madhya Pradesh to Hyderabad broke down in the ghat at around 11 am. Traffic continued slowly for a few hours, but later came to a complete standstill as congestion increased on both sides of the route. To clear the jam, two cranes were called in around midnight. After considerable effort, the tanker was moved to the roadside, and traffic was finally restored at around 2 am. The incident caused severe inconvenience to commuters and motorists.
