Aurangabad, July 15:

The School Education Department decided not to implement an online admission process for the 11th standard in the city for the academic year 2021-22.

It may be noted that the online admissions process to the first year of junior colleges of the city was being held on the lines of other big cities.

However, the joint-secretary of State Rajendra Pawar issued a letter to the joint director (Secondary and Higher Secondary Education), Pune, stating that the online admissions process would be held in Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Pimpri Chinchwad cities only for the new academic year.

Nothing was mentioned about the admission process of the city in the letter.

A total of 50 per cent of seats of the 11th standard were vacant in the district during the year 2017-18 while 51 pc in 2018-19, 60 pc in 2019-20, 45 pc in 2020-21.

Meanwhile, MLC Satish Chavan raised the issue in the Assembly session of March 2021.

He also met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackery, deputy CM Ajit Pawar, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad requested them to cancel the online admission process for the city college as there is more competition in rural colleges than in the city.

In his press release issued here on Thursday, MLC Chavan stated that Aurangabad city was excluded from the online admission process.

“The rural colleges have less admission capacity while the number of aspirants is double. In the city, seats remain vacant. Because of which, teachers are proving surplus,” he said.
