Aurangabad, May 7:

Here is good news for Aurangabadkars as the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), with the help of its associates, has increased the speed of the task of rejuvenating and beautifying the city's pride Kham River. Today, the task of painting the 72-km long journey of the river on the 244-feet long wall (adjacent to Income Tax Bhavan-Cantonment) has been undertaken.

The AMC is being supported by the Aurangabad Cantonment Board, few social organisations, NGOs, and alert citizens in this cause of reviving the past glory of the river.

Some 400 years ago, the city was developed on the banks of the river. However, in the last 70 years, the river got transformed into a nullah filled with silt, garbage, and other waste. Hence the works to desilt the river, clean up its surroundings, and beautifying the site got started the portion close to ACB and Income Tax Bhavan, a few months ago.

The painters Abdul Rasheed, Sunderlal Kumawat, Deepak Kumawat, and Pravin Devle had started painting the 244 feet long compound wall of the Income Tax Bhavan. The design showing the journey of the river has been made by Sai Sawant. Meanwhile, to match the natural habitat, the bridge passing overhead the river has been painted along with the pipes resting in the river bed. Besides, on both sides, the work to developed landscape has been also started with the help of pebbles and boulders.

72-km long river journey

The Kham River originates from the Dudhana River Valley and merges into Harsul Tank. From here, from the rear side of the Himayat Baugh, Bibi ka Maqbara, Makai Gate, Mehmood Gate, and Barapulla Gate, it arrives at the Cantonment Board Office and further flows from Karnapura, Yesgaon in Gangapur and through merging with Godavari River culminates into Nathsagar (Jayakwadi Dam). The distance from origin till tail-end is 72 kms. Hence this journey is being painted on the wall.
