Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Guru Parwati Dutta, noted Odissi and Kathak exponent, has been conferred with the Padmashri Sathyanarayan Commemorative Musicology Award by the Brahmavidya Foundation in Mysuru. The award, instituted in memory of musicologist Padmashri Sathyanarayan, was presented in the presence of scholar Nandkumar and Royal Mysuru Palace officials. With training in vocal music and multiple instruments, Dutta is credited with introducing Kathak and Odissi in Marathwada, systematising Odissi taal and re-contextualising the 13th-century Sangeet Ratnakar.
