Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A key suspect in the murder of a woman in Patiala (Punjab) was arrested by the city crime branch and railway police after he arrived at the railway station. The main suspect, Gurvinder Singh alias Goldie Nachhattar Singh (34), had been absconding along with two others since the crime.

According to police, the incident took place in Rongla village on February 19, when 58-year-old Baljeet Kaur was on her way to the fields. At that time, three persons, including the son of the village sarpanch, allegedly assaulted her brutally on the road, leaving her critically injured. She later succumbed to her injuries.

The incident triggered large-scale protests in Patiala district. Relatives and villagers refused to take custody of the body until the accused were arrested, putting considerable pressure on the Punjab Police.
