The new reservations for the post of Sarpanch will be declared through lots on Friday. Political equations are expected to change after the reservation are announced.
Elections for 21 Gram Panchayats in Waluj area have been held recently, and the results have been declared. Except for Ranjangaon, Tisgaon, Pandharpur and Ambelohal, the picture is unclear in other GPs. The office-bearers of all the political parties have been fielding hard to establish dominance over these gram panchayats. In this election, the voters had given a blow to the established political office bearers. From Ranjangaon, former speaker Vitthal Kolekar, former Sarpanch of Waluj Manoj Jaiswal, former Sarpanch of Pandharpur Latabai Kanade, current Sarpanch Sheikh Akhtar, former Panchayat Samiti chairman Dnyaneshwar Borkar were defeated by the new candidates. Many of the existing members, along with these established political office-bearers, were shown the way home by the voters to show confidence in the new leadership.
Candidates in preparation
The Mahavikas Aghadi and the BJP are in a tug-of-war to seize the rich GPs like Jogeshwari, Ranjangaon, Waluj, Pandharpur, Narayanpur and Valadgaon. Predicting a possible reservation draw, former Waluj Sarpanch Saidabi Pathan and Jogeshwari former Sarpanch Sonutai Lohkare have matched the members required for a majority and sent them to an undisclosed location for a trip.
