Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

In a shocking incident, a pickup vehicle seized by the police in connection with a diesel theft case on the Samruddhi Expressway was allegedly set on fire by an unidentified person at midnight on Thursday. The burning of evidence that was in police custody has caused a major stir in the area. A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Phulambri police station on Friday morning.

On March 4, a major diesel theft racket on the Samruddhi Expressway was exposed. During the operation, police seized a pickup vehicle (MH 19 CY 5264). As part of the investigation, the vehicle had been parked in the Pokhari area near an Indian Oil petrol pump on the highway. However, at around 1 am on Thursday, an unidentified person took advantage of the situation, broke the windows of the vehicle and set it on fire.

The fire caused extensive damage to the vehicle. It is suspected that the act was carried out to destroy an important piece of evidence related to the diesel theft case.

Upon receiving information about the incident, police rushed to the spot and carried out a panchnama. Based on a complaint filed by head constable Bharat Gaikwad, a case was registered against unknown persons at around 10 am on Friday.
