Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
A momentary lapse nearly turned life-threatening for a 16-year-old girl, who was given a new lease of life due to the timely intervention and expertise of doctors at the ENT department of Government Medical College and Hospital.
The girl from the Ganesh Colony area accidentally inhaled a pin she was holding in her mouth while adjusting her scarf. Following the incident, she developed severe coughing, chest pain and difficulty in breathing. Realising the seriousness of her condition, family members rushed her to GMCH.
An X-ray examination revealed that the pin was lodged in the left main bronchus. As the foreign object posed a life-threatening risk, doctors from the ENT department decided to perform an emergency procedure. Under the guidance of dean Dr Shivaji Sukre, head of department Dr Sunil Deshmukh successfully removed the pin from her airway. Dr Girija Jalanapurkar, junior resident doctors and anaesthesiologist Dr Ganesh Nikam were also part of the surgical team.
