Aurangabad, Dec 30:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has given the lands worth crores of rupees to private institutes on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis for 10 years. The corporation incurred severe losses in the BOT matter and now it is planning to give the playground to private institutes free of cost on Private Public Partnership (PPP) basis. Moreover, the AMC is being criticized over this issue of privatization.

There around 1300 lands in the city owned by AMC. People have encroached these lands at many places. At some places, the residents have made forged documents and sold the lands. Still, the administration is negligent about it. Ten years back, the then municipal commissioner, Asim Kumar Gupta had given several lands on BOT basis to the developers and many of these projects have hampered. Still, the administration has sanctioned a proposal to give 7 buildings of the school and 5 lands under educational reservation on PPP basis. Moreover, the play ground are also being planned to give on PPP basis. Cidco had handed over the developed city to AMC in 2006. Cidco provided playgrounds, gardens, roads, green belts to the residents. Now, the administration is planning to give these play grounds to the private institutes.

The proposal is to develop the play grounds through the private institutes so that the sports persons will get facilities. The tenders will be invited and the play grounds will be developed through the private institutes, the sources said.
