Police bust IPL betting racket in Rauzabaug, 52 mobile phones, laptops and LED TVs seized, 17 persons arrested; kingpin at large

Aurangabad, Oct 22: Busting a racket of betting on IPL cricket matches, the City Chowk police raided two flats situated one each on the second and the third floor of a building in Rauzabaug and arrested 17 persons including 7 women late night on Thursday.

The police have seized mobile phones, laptop, LED TV and other articles used for gambling. It is the biggest action executed by the police in the city on the IPL matches gambling so far. The police were conducting the panchnama on the spot till late night.

Police received a tip-off that betting on IPL matches is going on in Rauzabaug. Accordingly, under the guidance of DCP Nikesh Khatmode Patil, a police squad headed by PI Sambhaji Pawar and comprising PSI Praveen Patharkar and others raided the multy-storyed building to bust the betting racket. The betting centre looked like a call centre. Betting was done here right from the toss of the match, each ball and the winners of the match.

Similar police actions were carried out at two places in the city recently where betting was done on the IPL matches. The police are now trying to investigate who is the kingpin of the gambling racket and other related activities. The work of registering case was in progress in the City Chowk police station till late night.
