Aurangabad, Jan 1:

Three accused riding on a motorcycle beat a police constable returning home from night duty night, near LIC office, on Adalat Road, today in the wee hours. The accused also whisked away cash Rs 1,460 from the pocket of the cop. Meanwhile, the police succeeded in arresting one accused. The three accused are identified as Nitin Bhaskar Wakte (30), Gautam Ram Kadam (40) and Deepak Ramesh Wakte (all residents of Sansarnagar).

According to the complaint, the police constable Pravin Muley is attached to the Pundalikanagar police station. He was deployed on bandobast at Sutgirni Chowk last night (on December 31). At around 1.30 am (on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday) Muley was returning home in Nandanvan Colony. While he was passing through Adalat Road at around 2 am. Three accused riding on one motorcycle stopped him near the LIC office. Before any conversation begins, the trio started beating him. One of them held his hands, while another one took out all the money from his pockets. Muley sustained injuries one accused hit him with a stone when he resisted. The trio also damaged his motorcycle with a boulder, before disappearing from the spot. Muley then immediately contacted the Police Control Room, and assistant police inspector Ghanshyam Sonawane intimated about the incident. He also mentioned the vehicle number in the complaint.

Acting on the information, the police team patrolling in the night in the vicinity reached the spot. They hunted for the accused and succeeded in arresting Nitin from Sansarnagar. He then revealed the names of the other two accused. One accused ran away to Jalna and the second one is hiding in the house. He was not opening the door when the police went to arrest him. He was telling the cops that he is a special police officer (SPO). The police left the spot after the rush of people started to increase in the locality.
