Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Police have launched a crackdown on wine shops and liquor outlets allowing customers to drink outside, leading to lawlessness and public nuisance.

A special task force led by CP Pravin Pawar, operating in plain clothes, inspected liquor shops and bars across the city and Waluj. Officers found drunk individuals loitering, urinating in public, and engaging in brawls, raising serious concerns about public safety. Following the operation, police summoned liquor vendors and issued strict warnings. Officials also flagged food stalls and kiosks selling alcohol in glasses near liquor stores, which were found contributing to the problem. "You contribute to revenue, but public safety cannot be compromised. If customers drink outside and create disturbances, you will also face legal action," authorities warned shop owners.

Joint operations planned

The state excise department and police will now conduct joint operations to curb illegal public drinking. Authorities have urged citizens to report violations, promising swift action against offenders.
