Amid a rise in chain-snatching incidents, a gang posing as police personnel robbed a 40-year-old man on March 25 on Beed Bypass Road, claiming a murder had occurred ahead and checking was underway. A case was registered at Satara Police Station on March 27.
Shivaji Wagh, a Ramnagar resident and waterproofing contractor, was returning home around 5.45 pm after work near Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital when two men stopped him on the service road opposite MIT College. Dressed in military-style uniforms and carrying fake police identity cards, they asked him to remove his rings for checking. As he attempted to place them in his moped’s storage box, the duo snatched the jewellery and fled towards Deolai. Two gold rings weighing eight grams each (16 grams total) were stolen. Though Wagh raised an alarm, no one intervened. He later informed his family and lodged a complaint. Police are investigating the case.
