A procession was taken out from Kranti Chowk on the occasion of Mahatma Phule Jayanti, resonating with chants of “Jai Jyoti, Jai Kranti.” Members of the Banjara community, dressed in traditional attire from various tandas, captivated onlookers with their performance on ‘Lengi’ songs, while children Warkaris impressed with their rhythmic steps to bhajans of “Dnyanoba-Tukaram.”
The procession began after minister Atul Save offered a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Phule. Ajinkya Save was also present. A decorated chariot carried Sanjay Adhav and Dr Jayshree Adhav dressed as Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule, drawing crowds for selfies. Youth carrying saffron flags and women wearing yellow turbans led the procession with slogans, while traditional musical instruments added to the atmosphere.
Children Warkaris impress
A group of 101 children from Mauli Gurukul Ashram, Nillod, participated under the guidance of H.B.P. Sandeep Kakade Maharaj, dressed as various saints and historical figures including Lord Vitthal, Sant Tukaram, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule and Savitribai Phule. The procession concluded at Mahatma Phule Chowk in Aurangpura via Paithan Gate and Gulmandi.
Banjara dance adds vibrancy
Men and women from Tisgaon, Sirsala Tanda and Hivarkheda Tanda performed traditional circular dance on ‘Lengi’ songs to the beats of the daf, attracting large crowds along the route.
