Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The municipal corporation still has 28 days left for the collection of property tax and water charges. All ward offices have geared up to maximise recovery before March 31. So far, a total of Rs 208 crore has been collected, and the administration expects to recover an additional Rs 200 crore.

Municipal commissioner G Sreekanth introduced two schemes’ Shasti Se Azaadi and Shasti Se Mukti’ in the current financial year. Under these schemes, a rebate of 95 per cent and 75 per cent respectively was offered on the interest on pending property tax dues. This led to a rise in tax collection, with the recovery figure crossing Rs 200 crore for the first time in the corporation’s history.

The property tax collection target for this year has been set at Rs 700 crore, which includes arrears and the current year’s dues. The target for water charges collection is Rs 250 crore, including Rs 100 crore in arrears. From April 1 to March 2, a total tax collection of Rs 208,64,10,023 has been recorded, including Rs 190,18,53,528 from property tax and Rs 18,45,56,495 from water charges.
