Psychology students to undertake counselling work

The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada university (Bamu) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with nine city-based NGOs and mental health institutions, enabling psychology students to undertake counselling work and structured internships, registrar Dr Prashant Amrutkar said.

Under the guidance of vice-chancellor Dr Vijay Fulari of Bamu, the department of psychology currently offers AED, MA Psychology and a diploma in Clinical Psychology. From the upcoming academic year, four new courses in rehabilitation psychology and clinical Psychology will be introduced to strengthen academic and practical training. The MoUs were signed on April 16 in the presence of Dr Amrutkar, head of department Dr Aparna Ashtputre and representatives of the respective institutions. The partner organisations include society for psychotic update and research, Mental Health Centre, Pranit psychological counselling centre, MMR trust-run Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital, K Pond Neuro support, Vihang special school, Savitribai Phule Mahila Ekatmata Samaj, Aai Foundation Gevrai and Aastha Foundation.
