Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has busted a gang that attempted to fraudulently sell 13 acres of land worth around Rs 18 crore along the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Jalna road at Karmad. This is the second such attempt on the same land in the past eight months.

EOW arrested property agent Raju alias Kacharu Jadhav (resident of Harsul), his wife Vaishali (35), and E. Lata Suresh (47) of Tirupati. Jadhav approached Santosh Vaidya of Satara and Manoj Gatkal of Patody, falsely claiming ownership of the land (Group No. 30, Karmad) in the names of Bramharambha, Sharda and Sainna Raichuri, and collected ₹70 lakh as token amount. He later avoided executing the sale deed.

The fraud came to light when the buyers discovered that another gang had earlier tried to sell the same land and lodged a complaint with superintendent of police Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod. The probe was conducted by EOW police inspector Shyamsundar Kauthale and assistant police inspector Amol Satodkar.

Modus operandi

• Sainna Raichuri, residing in Hyderabad since 1985, had purchased the land in his and his daughters’ names. In 2025, Jadhav falsely told the buyers that the family wanted to sell the land due to a dispute.

• Though Sainna Raichuri is male, he was presented as a woman. Jadhav involved E. Lata Suresh and two other women he met during a temple visit in Tirupati.

• Lata and her accomplices posed as Sainna, Bramharambha and Sharda, collecting ₹70 lakh as token money. Lata even applied for an official name change to “Sharda.” Fake Aadhaar cards were prepared by a gang operating near the Andhra Pradesh–Karnataka border..

Background and wider angle

Police found that Raju and Vaishali were earlier booked in a similar case at Jalna Kadim police station in 2022. Vaishali was arrested in December 2025, Raju on January 30 from Harsul, and Lata was traced and arrested in Tirupati on February 7. Raju is also wanted in a 2023 accidental death case at Paithan. Police suspect a larger land fraud racket operating in Karmad, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Tirupati. Lata is an M.Sc graduate.

Same land targeted by two gangs

Earlier, another gang had attempted to sell the same land. After a public notice was published, the owners objected, though the accused remain unidentified. In the present case, the Raichuri family was unaware of the transaction.

Police advisory

Cases of multiple fraudulent sales of the same land are rising. Citizens should verify original documents, obtain a search report and proceed only with legal assistance, said SP Dr. Vinaykumar Rathod.
