Rajurkar-Janjal races for mayor and deputy mayor posts

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Acting upon the orders of the high commands of parties in alliance, the BJP candidate Sameer Rajurkar and Shinde Sena’s Rajendra Janjal submitted their nomination forms for the posts of mayor and the deputy mayor respectively.

Meanwhile, AIMIM’s candidate Ashok Hiwarale and Mohd. Waseem Ahmed submitted their candidature for the post of mayor and the deputy mayor in the late afternoon (4.30 pm).

The nomination forms were submitted to the municipal secretary (and deputy commissioner) Nandkishore Bhombe.

It may be noted that the last date to obtain the nomination form was 3 pm and submission was 6 pm today (Friday).

After a gap of a decade, the political activity was taking place at the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) headquarters. Hence, the campus was reverberating with the slogans of different political parties. The political leaders arrived along with their well-wishers and a convoy of vehicles of different leaders filled the open space of the headquarters.

Indeed it was a big day for the BJP, therefore, the party corporators and MLC Sanjay Kenekar reached in the afternoon. Later on, at around 2.35 pm, candidates Sameer Rajurkar and Rajendra Janjal arrived in one car. After 10 minutes, veteran leaders of BJP and Shinde Sena including OBC welfare minister Atul Save, MP Dr Bhagwat Karad, MLA Pradeep Jaiswal, BJP city president Kishore Shitole, Shinde Sena’s incharge Vilas Parkar and group leader Govind Kendre arrived and accompanied the alliance candidates. Shinde Sena corporators were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, AIMIM candidates submitted their forms in presence of proposers and seconders along with group leader Haji Sher Khan and state office-bearer Abdul Sameer Sajed. AIMIM’s state president Syed Imtiaz Jaleel announced their candidature through a press conference at 3.30 pm.

Two candidates in fray for both posts

BJP’s Sameer Rajurkar submitted two forms. One was proposed by Anil Makariye and seconded by Chandrakant Hiwrale and second one was proposed by Govind Kendre and seconded by Kishore Nagare, while the nomination of AIMIM’s Ashok Hiwrale was proposed by Ali Mir Wajid and seconded by Majeed Shaikh, stated the municipal secretary.

Shinde Sena’s Rajendra Janjal also submitted two forms. One was proposed by Rishikesh Jaiswal and seconded by Yashoda Shelke and second one was proposed by Nandlal Gawali and seconded by Mahesh Malwatkar, while the nomination of Waseem Ahmed was proposed by Khan Feroz and seconded by Meraj Khan, stated the municipal secretary.

The mayor and deputy mayor elections will be held on February 10 at 11 am. The district collector Deelip swami will be the presiding officer for the election.

It may be noted that the party wise strength in the newly elected body includes BJP - 57 seats, AIMIM - 33 seats, Shinde Sena - 13 seats, Uddhav Sena - 06 seats, VBA - four seats and one seat each of Congress and NCP (Sharad Pawar group).
