The state has decided to fill 5,012 out of 11,918 vacant posts of professors in aided colleges. However, Satish Chavan expressed concern that this may be the last such recruitment due to declining student numbers under the new National Education Policy.

Speaking after a meeting at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Chavan said the decision is based on student strength as of October 1, 2025, with only 40% posts being filled. He warned that declining enrolment and confusion over the major-minor system are pushing students away from higher education, which could eventually lead to college closures.
