A relative who had stayed at a trader’s house claiming illness allegedly stole 12.6 tolas of gold ornaments and 300 grams of silver, police said. Based on suspicion raised by the complainant, City Chowk police have registered a case against a couple from Pune, Nikhil and Varsha.

According to the complaint filed by Manoj Bomble, a family wedding was held on February 26. During the celebrations, Nikhil had seen the cupboard containing gold ornaments being opened several times. While the entire family had gone to attend the wedding, Nikhil and Varsha allegedly went to Bomble’s house around 2.30 pm, claiming that Nikhil was unwell and needed rest. They later returned to the wedding venue around 4.30 pm. Later, when Bomble checked the cupboard, he found the ornaments missing. Suspecting that Nikhil and Varsha had committed the theft, he lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
