Aurangabad, Nov 13:

Diwali is the festival of lights and firecrackers. The louder the firecracker, the higher the demand. However, many citizens have become aware of the adverse effects of firecrackers on the environment and have decided to celebrate cracker-free Diwali.

This year, people are scared because of the coronavirus. Many municipal corporations in the state have called for a firecracker-free Diwali celebration. So this year, many have decided to celebrate Diwali only with lights, not firecrackers. In particular, the youths have also taken the lead in this initiative and the craze for loud firecrackers seems to have abated. Smoke from firecrackers is also harmful to the elderly and children, and corona patients are likely to be affected by the smoke from the firecrackers. Therefore, many doctors are also appealing not to burst firecrackers.

Tree planting instead of bursting firecrackers

Every year we avoid bursting loud noise firecrackers. This year, all the members of ''We for the Environment'' have decided to celebrate a firecracker free Diwali. On the eve of Diwali Padwa, all the members of the group will be planting trees in different areas, said Meghna Badjate.

Firecracker shops waiting for customers

The crowds at the cracker market this year are much lesser than every year. Even though Lakshmi Puja is on Saturday, very few people were seen in the cracker shop on Friday. This annoyed the firecracker sellers. People who are coming for shopping are preferring low noise firecrackers. Some sellers said that those who buy firecrackers worth Rs 1,000 are now buying firecrackers worth Rs 500 to Rs 600.
