The body of retired police sub-inspector Bhimrao Ghuge (62), who had gone missing after leaving Balapur fields for the city, was found in a dry well in the same area. The incident came to light at around 11 am on Friday. Police are investigating whether he fell accidentally or died by suicide, with initial findings strongly suggesting suicide.

Ghughe had retired from the city police force as a sub-inspector and was last posted at Kranti Chowk police station. After retirement, he alternated between staying with his son on Beed Bypass and at his home in Balapur fields. His daughter also resides in the same area. On Thursday, he had gone to visit his daughter and went missing while returning to the city. Despite repeated attempts, family members received no response to calls or messages.

On Friday, Chikalthana police were informed that a man had fallen into a dry well in Balapur fields. Fire brigade officials Sandeep Chavan, Dinesh Mungse, Prasad Shinde, and Deepak Gadekar retrieved the body.

Strong suspicion of suicide

Ghuge’s two-wheeler was found some distance from the well, and a rope was discovered in the vehicle’s storage compartment, strengthening suspicion of suicide. Last rites were performed at Balapur crematorium. Chikalthana police are conducting further investigation.
