Oil marketing companies on Friday increased the prices of regular petrol and diesel by Rs 3.14 per litre amid the ongoing fuel crisis. The hike is expected to impact transportation costs and prices of essential commodities. Transport associations said freight charges are likely to increase by around 5 to 8 percent from Monday.

Petrol prices rise after 17 months
Regular petrol and diesel prices were last revised on December 1, 2024, when rates were increased by 6 paise. After 17 months, petrol prices on Friday rose to Rs 108.31 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 94.18 per litre.

Freight transport to become costlier
Diesel prices increased by Rs 3.11 per litre, affecting long-distance goods transportation. General secretary of the transporters’ association Jaykumar Thanvi said transportation charges for grains, fruits and vegetables arriving from other states are expected to increase due to the fuel hike.

Power petrol and diesel rates also increased
Prices of premium fuel variants also increased on Friday. Power petrol became costlier by Rs 3.14 and is now being sold at Rs 94.78 per litre, while power diesel rose by Rs 3.11 to Rs 100.03 per litre.

Fuel supply expected to improve
Petroleum Dealers Association president Akhil Abbas said fuel supply had been slightly disrupted, especially for petrol pumps dependent on hired tankers. He added that the revised rates are expected to stabilise supply.

Auto LPG price to drop by Rs 21
Around 30 to 40 tonnes of auto LPG are sold daily in the city. Due to supply disruptions, prices had surged from Rs 62 per litre in March to Rs 125 by April 3. However, supply is gradually improving and from Saturday, auto LPG prices will be reduced by Rs 21, bringing the rate down to Rs 104 per litre, according to auto LPG pump operators’ association representative Dishant Dayalani.
