Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

Citizens’ trust in the savings schemes of the postal department is steadily increasing, once again becoming evident through recent figures. Between April 1, 2025 and March 30, 2026, the number of postal savings bank accounts rose significantly from 1,62,000 to 2,18,772, marking an addition of 56,772 new accounts.

Due to the department’s transparent, secure, and reliable services, both rural and urban citizens are increasingly turning towards postal accounts. Government backing, simple procedures, and a variety of attractive savings schemes have contributed to this growing preference.

Effective awareness campaigns about schemes for women, senior citizens, and long-term investments have also played a key role. As a result, a substantial increase in accounts has been recorded in a short span. Continuous efforts and public outreach by postal staff have been instrumental in achieving this milestone. With this record growth, the postal department has become stronger and has expressed its commitment to providing quality services in the future as well.

When fingerprints fail, post offices become essential

Elderly, destitute individuals, and beneficiaries of the Sanjay Gandhi scheme have also started opening accounts in post offices. Marketing representatives as well as most postmen are now guiding citizens, and as per the department’s app-based system, postmen are visiting homes and delivering payments to customers who request it.

This is particularly important because, with age, fingerprints often fail to register properly. In such cases, beneficiaries are advised to update their Aadhaar details. While many elderly individuals had earlier given up hope of receiving their benefits due to such issues, their expectations have now increased with postal accounts. There has also been a rise in accounts related to student scholarships, the Ladki Bahin scheme, and other beneficiaries.
