The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) saved Rs 10 crore since the term of corporators ended. It may be noted that the term of public representatives ended in April this year. There is less possibility of the election in the next few months.

The AMC saved Rs 10 crore which can be used as corporators’ honorarium, vehicle allowance of office-bearers, discretionary fund and travel expense.

If their unnecessary development expenses are taken into consideration, the saving will be up to Rs 60 crore to 70 crores. The elections were to be held in April 2020, but, were postponed with the spread of Novel coronavirus.

Later, the dispute of ward restructuring reached in Supreme Court, which has given ‘Status Quo. The elections won’t be held until the court judgement.

A corporator is given Rs 7,000 as monthly honorarium while Rs 100 allowance is genera for each Standing Committee and General Body meeting. Each corporator is given Rs 2 lakh discretionary fund for a year. There are five office-bearers, and each of them gets Rs 22,000 vehicle allowance.

There are five committees, and each of them has one chairman. A total of Rs 12,000 is given to each chairman as vehicle and refreshment allowance. The per-day expense of each GB meeting is over Rs 1 lakh.

A total of Rs 2.50 crore are spent as a discretionary fund of all corporators while the amount of their honorarium and vehicle allowance is Rs 1.8 crore and Rs 1.60 crore respectively.
