Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University(BAMU) has approved its Rs 354.37 crore budget for the 2025-26 financial year, despite facing a Rs 21.64 crore deficit. The budget, sanctioned on Saturday, includes significant allocations for salaries, development, and independent projects.
VC Dr Vijay Fulari chaired the Senate meeting, where Management Council member Dr Bharat Khandare presented the budget. Pro-VC Dr Valmik Sarvade and registrar Dr Prashant Amritkar were also present. A total of 12 topics were discussed during the meeting. After approving the proceedings report and action plan, a question-answer session was held in the afternoon, followed by the budget presentation. The university's total expected revenue stands at Rs 332.73 crore, including Rs 91.23 crore from salary grants, Rs 118.13 crore from development and independent project schemes, and Rs 123.37 crore from various non-grant sources. The total expected expenditure is Rs 345.37 crore, with Rs 91.23 crore allocated for grant-in-aid salaries, Rs 118.13 crore for development and projects, and Rs 145.01 crore from the general fund. The Rs 21.64 crore deficit reflects a 6.11% reduction from the previous year's 12.86% shortfall, highlighting efforts to cut costs and improve financial efficiency.
Debate and key decisions
During discussions, Chhatrabhuj Godbole initiated the budget debate, with several members, including Dr Sanjay Kamble, Prof. Haridas Somwanshi, Dr Umakant Rathod, Dr Vikram Khilare, and Dr. Yogita Hoke Patil, raising concerns over allocations. One major decision was increasing the financial authority of directors at Dharashiv sub-centres to Rs 1 lakh. After deliberations, the Senate approved the budget alongside annual reports and individual resolutions. The session concluded with the National Anthem.
