Aurangabad, Dec 21:

The Regional Transport Office has launched a special drive to search 17,000 vehicles across the country which has evaded the tax to the tune of crores of rupees. Hence, these vehicles have been black-listed.

The RTO in a special drive to be implemented on Saturday and Sunday on such vehicles while action has been executed on 327 vehicles in the past one month and of which 186 vehicles have been seized and the revenue amounting Rs 44.77 lakh have been recovered so far. Earlier, the RTO could not gain the information about the vehicles evading taxes easily. However, now with the online system, the information can be obtained easily and the black list of the vehicles is prepared.

The tax evaders are imposed 2 percent monthly interest on the tax and 24 percent interest is recovered annually. The outstanding amount of the tax is increasing day by day now.

RTO, Sanjay Metrewar said, in all, 17,000 vehicles evading taxes have been searched and the vehicles owners should pay the taxes and escape further action. The action can be executed across the country, he said.
