Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station earned over Rs 1.04 in 2024-25, securing 9th position among South Central Railway's passenger revenue-generating stations.

A similar performance continued in 2025-26. The city's identity as a tourist, industrial, and educational hub, along with growing passenger traffic to Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and South India, has driven this revenue growth. Yet, despite this achievement, not a single train originates from Sambhajinagar, and railway organizations are raising concerns over the lack of new train services.

Pit line work delayed

South Central Railway has failed to complete the pit line work at Sambhajinagar for the past one and a half years, with only cabling work remaining. Had it been completed on time, new trains to Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Bengaluru, Goa, Ayodhya, Varanasi and other cities could have been launched, potentially pushing revenue beyond Rs 200 crore and benefiting passengers, tourists, entrepreneurs, and students.

"Despite ranking ninth, Sambhajinagar has no originating trains. Delayed pit line work with only cabling remaining has robbed the city of new train services this year."

- Anant Borkar, President, Marathwada Railway Action Committee
