Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

A special music programme titled ‘Sangeet Samarpan’, organised by the Nadabrahma Tabla Academy as a tribute to the late, eminent tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, was held on Thursday in an emotionally charged atmosphere in the presence of music lovers. Tapadiya Natya Mandir was immersed throughout in sound, rhythm and melody, as the seamless interplay of notes, tempo, taans and alaaps offered the audience an unforgettable experience. The programme was organised by Shon Patil, Abhishek Ligade and Rishikesh Pokhare.

The event began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by industrialist Rishi Bagla, followed by Saraswati and Ganpati Pujan and Vedic Chanting. In the first session, renowned vocalist Nagesh Adgaonkar captivated the audience with his soulful and emotive singing. He presented Raga Gavati in Vilambit Teentaal, and concluded with the abhangs ‘Sukhache je sukh’ and ‘Samadhi sadhan sanjeevan naam’. He was accompanied by Soham Gorane on tabla, Ganesh Bhutekar on pakhawaj and Abhishek Shinkar on harmonium.

The programme beautifully reflected the rich tradition of Indian classical music, the guru–shishya parampara, and the immense contribution of Ustad Zakir Hussain to the world of music. The audience described the experience as truly memorable. Eminent musicians and lyricists from the city were present for the programme.

Tabla solo performance

The highlight of the second session was a tabla solo recital by Pandit Yogesh Samsi. A distinguished tabla exponent of Indian classical music, senior disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha and guru-bandhu of Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pandit Samsi presented a solo performance showcasing traditional compositions of the Punjab Gharana. His recital included Deshkar, rendered with Tishralaya, along with several well-known Kaidas, and the celebrated Rav style of the Punjab Gharana. The harmonium accompaniment was provided by Abhishek Shinkar.
