Aurangabad, March 20:

As a CSR initiative, the State Bank of India (SBI) has adopted all the 14 tigers of the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) zoo, situated on Siddharth Garden campus, today evening.

At an informal function organised on the zoo campus, the SBI's General Manager, Baldev Prakash, handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the AMC's additional commissioner B B Nemane, in the presence of the MP, Imtiaz Jaleel, stated the press release.

Bank's senior officials, including Alok Kumar Chaturvedi, Ravi Kumar Verma, Sudha Prakash, Duttaprasad Pawar and Pratap Handrale, were also present on occasion.

The director of the zoo, Dr B S Naikwade, confirmed that the SBI had adopted all 14 tigers (including cubs) for one year. As reported earlier, the AMC had introduced the Animal Adoption Scheme in 2010. The scheme, approved by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) enables zoo officials to raise funds required for the wildlife's proper upkeep in its custodian. Lokmat Times Campus Club had also adopted one tiger a few years ago.
