The Bharatiya Janata Party has consolidated control in the Zilla Parishad with support from independents and the Nationalist Congress Party (AP), securing both president and vice-president posts while keeping the Shiv Sena out of power.

Shinde Sena’s push for the top post cost it the vice-president post and key committee chairmanships, with internal factionalism further weakening its position and raising questions over its reduced role.

Chairperson posts in MLAs’ constituencies?

BJP is set to control major portfolios including the standing committee, agriculture, animal husbandry and other departments. With BJP MLAs in Sambhajinagar, Phulambri and Gangapur-Khuldabad, members from these areas may get chairperson posts, while its power-sharing strategy with allies remains under watch.

Zilla Parishad functions through 10 departments

The Zilla Parishad functions through around 10 departments separate heads for social welfare and women & child welfare, joint heads for finance & works, education and health; the president leads the standing committee, while the vice-president handles agriculture and animal husbandry.

• Finance & Works: Budgeting, fund allocation, infrastructure

• Education & Health: Schools, teachers, healthcare, vaccination

• Women & Child Welfare: Anganwadi, nutrition, empowerment
