Aurangabad, Jan 28:

The Samajwadi Party (SP) today challenged the BJP, Shiv Sena and AIMIM parties to contest the forthcoming municipal corporation election on development issues, leaving aside the subjects relating to caste, religion and renaming of the city.

The city president Faisal Khan also made serious allegations against the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) administrator A K Pandey. He also reasoned why the Pune city could be renamed as Sambhajinagar instead of Aurangabad.

" Aurangzeb is not the name, but the title awarded to the emperor by the Brahmin community. The meaning of Aurang is(different colours), and Zeb means which is suitable, said the state general secretary Abdul Rauf.

The party office-bearers also demanded to save Katkat Gate by demolishing the bridges constructed on both the sides of the heritage structure. They opposed to the Cycle Track suggesting to utilise the money on the development of slums.

Shaikh Akhil, Siddique Khan, Prakash Pattedar, Ayub Khan and Dr Sharif were present on occasion.
